“Infatuation is recreation,” is the phrase which sits at the bottom of every page on NomaNation.com. It is a phrase that sums up the haphazard lifestyle of designer, Noma Appel. “I have a pretty bad ‘crush’ habit. When I go in for something – be it a type of music, art, or a decade, it becomes my obsession…for a few minutes.” Like many other over-stimulated and under-focused victims of her generation, Noma’s short attention span has led to an eclectic base of influences. “I’ve started plenty of trinket collections, and studied random topics in my quest to become an expert on some one idea. The problem is I can’t settle on just one. Now that I find I know a little about a lot of different things, I’ve decided to accept this mania for what it is – my recreation. Hence the tagline.”

When, in 2002, Noma began collecting glass and gemstone beads, and fashioning them into striking jewelry, the designer finally found a passion which wasn’t so fleeting. Now, what was a personal interest has become business – an accessories line designed for a woman who vigorously throws herself into life, and never worries too much about any one thing. “When I think about the woman who wears my jewelry I see someone who refuses to be categorized,” says Noma, “who will pick out an item that is special enough to be worn with a cocktail dress, then wear it with jeans and a tank.”

Noma Nation’s online collection includes an array of jewelry and belts that are as free as the women who wear them. All jewelry is handmade by Noma in her New York City studio. Currently Noma is adding a clothing line to the web store, just click on “What2Wear”. This department includes hand-decorated small tops, and one-of-a-kind revamped vintage items.

Noma attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, where she earned a degree in Fashion Design. Also possessing a Bachelor of Science in Advertising and Graphic Design from the University of Miami, Noma works as a graphic designer when she’s not fiddling with silver and beads. New York City has been her home since 1996, although wanderlust often beckons her to travel, occasionally at length.

In addition to the web store, Noma sells her designs at private shows, and various fairs or street locations around New York. Most items are also available to retail stores. For wholesale or consignment information please contact Noma Appel.
